What to Expect

Our internships are aimed at undergraduates, who have completed a minimum of two years of college. Our internships are project oriented and are typically part of our biology, protein engineering, analytical, pharmacology, chemistry, process development, manufacturing, project management, or business areas. Internships are typically 8 – 10 weeks in duration. You will be part of a science or business team learning and working on projects as a team member, typically under the direction of a Scientist or Senior Research Associate. Our internships pay $4,000 per month. The income you receive will be taxable. You will be responsible for your housing in the Bay Area, please provide a local address with your application. You will need to be present for the entire 8-10 weeks of your internship and you will receive a job description which outlines your primary areas of responsibility.

Guidelines

Sutro’s hours are from 8:30AM – 5:00PM. You will be expected to work Monday – Friday (except Holidays). Any time away from work should be arranged in advance with your manager. During the course of our internship program we will aim to provide you with an understanding of our science and our business. We will arrange intern meetings with our CEO and the management team. You will also have interaction with our other interns and their managers. You will be invited to attend Research seminars, all employee meetings and Friday social hours and all company activities which occur during your internship. Our dress code is business/science casual. Closed toe shoes are essential for work in the lab as are safety glasses and a lab coat, which will be provided.

Additional Information

When you begin your internship, you will be required to provide proof of your ability to work in the United States (Sutro is required to complete an I-9 form on your behalf). We will need a copy of your passport and/or drivers license. You will also need to provide us with your social security number. You will have a laboratory and safety orientation and we will issue you a card key for access to our buildings. Our main office and labs are located in South San Francisco. We also have a world-class manufacturing facility in San Carlos. You will also be required to sign a confidentiality agreement which acknowledges your agreement to keep all information that you learn about Sutro, confidential and an invention assignment agreement that assigns your interest in any invention made in the course of your employment with us to Sutro.
